Robert Thorne established Thorne’s Excavating Company, LLC, a family owned and operated business, in 1963. The following year, Thorne’s Excavating Co. received Tennessee Contractors License 8782, with license classifications MU, HRA, and BC-28.

Thorne’s Excavating Co. has been located in Lebanon, Tennessee, since founding, specializing in grading and utilities, the majority of which are confined to the Middle Tennessee area.

Ownership then shifted to son, Gary Thorne, who served as Chief Manager with over 40 years service to the company, supported by his son Eric Thorne. Gary retired in 2022.

Eric Thorne took over the company in the beginning of 2023.
